ASSIGNMENT 7

For this assignment, students will write a report on a particular AI approach that has not been covered in class. The report should give enough background on the topic that a person not familiar with AI would get an understanding of that particular technology, and a person familiar with AI would be able to write a program using that technology. The report will also serve as a basis for the presentation (see Assignment 8). Possible topics include:
Rule Based Reasoning (Logicist Approach): Conflict Resolution, Inference Engines, Nonstandard Logics
	Case Based Reasoning: Adaptation, Schemata
	Genetic Algorithms: Representation, Genetic Programming
Artificial Neural Networks: Approaches Beyond Backpropagation and Kohonen
	Fuzzy Logic: Specialized Approaches
Intelligent Agent Societies (Multi-Agent / Intelligent Agents)
	(Intelligent) Robotics
	Uncertain/Probabilistic Reasoning: Specialized Approaches
	Swarm Behavior
So that everyone is not reporting on the same topic, please let me know which area you choose. If you would like to report on a topic not listed, clear that topic with me first. The report should be 15-20 pages double-spaced, and turned in both electronically and on paper. In researching the topic, I expect you to go beyond what is found on wikipedia. You may use web references, but I do expect you to delve into actual research papers also. Google Scholar is one good site to searh, as are many of the websites of professional organizations (IEEE, ACM, AAAI, etc.). The standard written evaluation form found on the department web site will be used to assess the reports. The link is found toward the bottom of the page at: Standard Written Evaluation Form

Submission. Submit the electronic version of your paper via Moodle. Also be sure to print your paper and turn in the hardcopy!
