ACM Meeting Minutes February 27, 2014 Department Restructuring of Curriculum: ACM Club produce demos of our projects and display on monitors as other departments do. Volunteers: Matt, Jon, Student retainment? More involvment for the freshmen. Involvement: Better email list- Continue emails beyond first month of semester to those freshmen who have not joined ACM. Freshmen wait to get more exp. before joining, but joining provides exp. Mentor System? Programming teams with members from each year rather than groups of juniors groups of seniors etc. More tutors! Everyone in ACM can help, even if they're not officially a tutor- we can all spend an hour a week helping each other. Social events: movie nights or any other times for people to get together, and freshmen have an oportunity to ask questions and get involved. Also helps show that ACM is giving back to the school when asking ASME for funding CSCI 311: Advanced Web Development may be added to curriculum. Intro to engineering included in SE program to get students feet wet. (General Approval from attendees) Java needs to stay in program as a freshman course! Industry Trip: March 20th (Thursday) tour of facilities. Drive day Wednesday, stay Thursday, Friday, drive back Saturday 10 interested attendies at meeting. Big Fish, Bungie, Valve, Pop Cap, Gas-Powered, 343, Google Other spots to visit (outside of companies): Science Center, Experience Music Project, Sci-fi Museum, Space Needle (expensive), Ethnic Food Justin will contact folks back home for possible discount. Jon and Jake will contact ASME for funding, as well as using ACM and perhaps department funds. There may still be some out of pocket costs LAN Party next Friday (March 7)
